  • Exterior finish protection:
To keep the exterior of your new fiberglass truck body in good condition, periodic preventative
    maintenance should be followed.
  • Finish protection:
The body has a beautiful, natural glass finish and will stay this way if it is washed periodically with common strength soap and water (heavy doses of acetone or lacquer thinner should not be used.)  High caustic soaps and solutions will cause premature color fade and panel surface deterioration.

It is alright to use a hot water pressure washer system for cleaning, however, to prevent premature deterioration of exterior finish; the water pressure against the surface of the panel should not be extreme.  Mild to moderate amounts of pressure is sufficient to apply soap and remove surface dirt.

We recommend, for a good finish protection – apply a coat of wax one or two times a year.  Waxing helps protect against every day elements and ultra violet rays which cause surface deterioration and fading.  Many automotive or fiberglass boat waxes can be used.  Check the product label for recommended surfaces and application. We would recommend a mild abrasive rubbing compound with wax.  A product that we use here is manufactured by “Maguire”.  Any fiberglass boat or automobile parts supplier should be able to get this or an equivalent product for you.
  • Mounting bolts:
  • Tighten tie down bolts after first 30 days of operation
  • Re-check every 3 months thereafter
  • Door Hinges and locks:
  • If outside rear corner hinges with grease zerks -
    * grease them at the same time as the chassis
  • Standard hinges/locks:
    * spray with white Lithium grease periodically

  • Refrigeration Plates (when applicable):
  • Defrost recommended when frost accumulation exceeds ½”. (Defrost instructions are located on driver side front corner of the body or on the compressor door if skirt mounted)
  • Lift Gates: (when applicable):
(The following is a general checklist.  Check the operating manual supplied with your unit for instructions specific to your model lift gate)
  • Daily Inspection
    • All hoses.  Oil leakage.
    • Mounting brackets and bolts connecting lift gate to frame and mount frame.
    • Electric wires and connections.
    • Cylinder covers.
    • Replace faulty parts immediately.
  • General Checklist:
    • Grease lift gate at the same time as the truck.  More often under heavy usage.
    • Check the oil level in the tank.  Change the oil once a year.
    • Operate the lift gate throughout its’ entire operation and check for noise and damage such as bent parts and cracked welds.
    • Visually inspect hydraulic lines for damage, scratches, bending or leakage.
    • Check plastic covers and rubber boots on cylinders for damage.
    • Inspect cylinders for leakage.
    • Check all electrical connections.  Clean battery terminals.
    • Check for any damage that can make the use of the lift gate dangerous.  Repair this type of damage before using.  All repairs should be made by an authorized technician.  Use only original spare parts.  If in doubt, contact your distributor.

  • Walk Ramps: (when applicable):
  • Lubricate wheels at the same time the truck is greased
  • Mechanical Refrigeration (when applicable):
  • See service manual

  • General Refrigeration Information
    • Daily operating instructions are located on the streetside front corner of the body or on the compressor compartment access door.
    • The primary preventative measure to take on the compressor/condensing units is to keep the condensing coil fins clean.
    • As with a radiator, the fins need to be kept clean so there is good air flow to prevent heat build-up.  Care has to be taken when cleaning since the fins are fragile and can be easily bent by brushes or too high pressure air or water.
    • Defrosting Plates: Defrost is recommended when frost accumulation exceeds ½”. (Defrost instructions are located on drivers’ side front corner of the body or on the compressor door if skirt mounted)Defrost instructions without PUMP DOWN provision: (if PUMP DOWN, see sticker on body)
    • Electric ON/OFF should be OFF.  Unplug power supply.  Unload product.
    • Place fan in rear door opening directing warm air onto plates or use water hose with sprayer using warm water directed onto plates (water not to exceed 110°).
    • When plates are defrosted, flush out floor and shelving (if applicable), sanitizing as required.
    • Dry interior of body and plates with fan.
    • After defrost:  Electric ON/OFF switch should be OFF.
    • Plug-in power cord and turn electric ON/OFF switch to ON.
    • When units starts, observe for 1 to 2 minutes before leaving.
    • The truck should be parked on a reasonably level surface while the compressor is plugged in to assure good lubrication of the compressor while running.
    • It is also recommended that you have refrigeration service people available in each area where trucks are domiciled.
    • They can check the sight glasses on the compressor for low oil or low refrigerant and take appropriate action. The oil needs to be about half way up the glass and the freon glass should be clear of bubbles.
    • They would be able to show your service people where to find the sight glasses so they can check them from time and report any concerns.
    • It is recommended that you check the door seal from time to time to correct leaks.
    • Using a dollar bill, place it between the door gasket and jam while you open and close the door. When you close the door on the dollar bill there should be some resistance as you try to pull the dollar bill back out. Do this around the perimeter of the door checking resistance on the dollar bill as you go.  If there is no resistance, either tighten the lock handle, shim the hinge at that location or replace the door gasket if it appears to have lost its resilience or is missing.
    • As always, our technicians are available here in Rice Lake from 6AM to 2PM CST to answer any questions on specific problems.  Our primary technician is Larry Peterson 1-800-922-8360 extension 344.
