Refrigeration Systems / Johnson Mechanical Blower Refrigeration Options

ThermoKing Corporation and Carrier Transicold are Johnson’s primary suppliers of forced air refrigeration systems. Both systems are designed with maximum flexibility to accommodate the various temperature control needs of medium and large truck bodies and trailers.

These systems cool by transferring heat from inside the truck body to the exterior. Consistent uniform airflow is circulated around the product to pick-up heat. The air is then lowered in temperature as it passes through the evaporator coil. The heat is absorbed from the air by the refrigerant gas in the evaporator, and is transferred outside the body into the atmosphere.

  Mechanical Cold Plate
Operating Application Extended road time Daily runs 10-12 hours
Initial Cost Higher than plates Lower than mechanical
Operating Cost Subject to fuel costs higher maintenance Typically lower electric rates, less maintenance
Effective System Life 10 years with proper maintenance Life of truck
Reliability Failure = Loss of product protection Product protected up to 24 hours
Down Time Down time limited to pre-cooling Plate recharging requires 8-10 hours down time
Maintenance / Complexity 100-1500 hours scheduled maintenance required Low maintenance required
Temperature Response Quick response to temperature recovery Dedicated application, slower temperature recovery
Environmental Compatibility Exhaust discharge, higher noise levels No pollutant discharge, quiet operation
